Periodontal surgery
Sustainable solutions for healthy gums
Healthy gums are the foundation for the long-term preservation of your teeth. If periodontitis has already caused deep pockets or gum recession, conservative measures are often no longer sufficient. In such cases, periodontal surgery offers effective options for halting the progression of the disease – and in many cases even for the targeted restoration of lost tissue.
In our practice, we combine proven surgical techniques with modern, regenerative procedures – gentle, precise, and scientifically sound.
Surgical Pocket Reduction – Creating Stable Conditions
The goal of traditional periodontal surgical treatment is to reduce inflammatory periodontal pockets. Inflamed tissue is removed under local anesthesia, the root surfaces are thoroughly cleaned, and the gums are repositioned to create a hygienic, inflammation-free environment. This halts the progression of periodontitis and supports long-term tooth preservation.
Regenerative Periodontal Surgery – Targeted Tissue Regeneration
In suitable cases, periodontally damaged tissue can be partially biologically regenerated using modern materials. This includes enamel matrix proteins or membrane-supported techniques that specifically promote the natural regeneration of bone, connective tissue, and periodontal ligament.
These specialized procedures require a high degree of surgical skill and a deep understanding of biological healing mechanisms. Our physicians have received specialized training in this field, including under Prof. Dr. Markus Hürzeler and Dr. Otto Zuhr, two leading international specialists in modern periodontal surgery.
Recession Coverage – Targeted Treatment of Gum Recession
Receding gums (recession) can cause both functional problems such as sensitive tooth necks and aesthetic impairments – especially in the visible anterior region. Microsurgical techniques can be used to rebuild the gums in many cases.
Depending on the initial situation, the following procedures are used:
Connective tissue grafts: Connective tissue taken from the palate is inserted under the gums in the affected area to gently cover exposed tooth necks.
Free mucosal grafts: Also taken from the palate, these primarily serve to widen the attached gums, which contributes to long-term stability.
Both techniques require microsurgical precision – especially when the highest aesthetic demands are to be met.
